The guava tree is a tropical perennial, producing fruits for at least 15 years while the tomato needs replanting bi-annually. Guava trees tolerate prolonged dry seasons and are cultivated throughout Brasil without irrigation (this is not possible with the tomato which has significant water requirements).
Cultivating
guava therefore represents a more environmentally-conscious alternative;
a point of importance for today´s increasingly demanding consumer.
