Developed in Brazil, the Paluma guava variety gives a fruit with a deeper, ruby-red colour and a more intense flavour than the pink guavas cultivated elsewhere.
The red guava is probably one of the healthiest fruits in the world. Compared with other commonly consumed fruits, it offers exceptional levels of lycopene, vitamin C and fibre. It is also a good source of beta-carotene, folate and the B vitamins niacin and pyridoxine.

An article published by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, USA, in 1998 described the guava as the "Superfruit"; when compared with the most commonly consumed fruits it had the most exceptional combination of nutrients.

Guatchup, therefore, represents a healthier alternative to the more traditional tomato-based table sauces, given that the guava´s nutritional characteristics are superior to those of the tomato.
